Theophrastus, eigentlich Philipp Aureolus Theophrast Bombast von Hohenheim, Arzt, Naturforscher und Philosoph, geboren in Einsiedeln am 11. 11.1493.<\/strong><br \/>\nNach Lehr- und Wanderjahren (medizinische Promotion in Ferrara ungesichert), Arzt in Salzburg von 1524 bis 1525, 1526\/27 in Stra\u00dfburg, 1527\/28 Stadtarzt und Professor in Basel, wo er mit der medizinischen Fakult\u00e4t in Konflikt geriet.<br \/>\nDie Ver\u00f6ffentlichung zahlreicher Werke war schwierig, da Paracelsus die Schulmedizin heftig bek\u00e4mpfte; er strebte eine grundlegende Reform der Medizin an und l\u00f6ste sich von Autorit\u00e4ten wie Ibn Sina und Galen, nicht aber von Hippokrates, verwarf die Viers\u00e4ftelehre (Humoralpathologie=Lehre, die alle Krankheiten von einer fehlerhaften Beschaffenheit der K\u00f6rpers\u00e4fte, besonders des Blutes, ableitet); er hielt seine Vorlesungen in Deutsch und schrieb auch seine B\u00fccher in deutscher Sprache. Paracelsus&#8216; Medizin gr\u00fcndete auf Erfahrung, Experimenten und Naturbeobachtung; dennoch stand er dem florentinischen Neuplatonismus nahe, sah den Menschen als \u00bbMikrokosmos\u00ab in engem Zusammenhang mit dem \u00bbMakrokosmos\u00ab und vertrat eine spekulative Kosmologie und Anthropologie, die auch astrologische, alchemistische und okkultistische Elemente enthielt (Homunkulus).<br \/>\nAu\u00dfer medizinischen verfasste er theologische, religionsphilosophische und sozialpolitische Schriften. Seine Pers\u00f6nlichkeit und sein Werk sind bis heute umstritten.<br \/>\nMit der Erforschung von Paracelsus&#8216; Wirken und Werk besch\u00e4ftigt sich die Internationale Paracelsus-Gesellschaft in Salzburg.<\/p>\n<p>(c) Bibliographisches Institut &amp; F.
